How can you find if a product is renewable and sustainable? Some tips to disclose it.

Today very frequently we hear words as renewability and sustainability.

These two concepts have been growing along with the development of new technologies, namely with the growth of new energy sources.

Things are changing and it’s enough to put a glance around to realize it !

Just think to solar panels and to how rapidly they have become popular these last years, as well as eolic plants and biomasses power plants, on which I’ve recently written an article that you can find here.

All of them are technologies that up to fifteen years ago we could just imagine.

You will see that next 10 years a true revolution will happen and we will hear less and less of petrochemical derivatives and of fossil fuels.

We will see which way Mr Elon Musk will win his beg with Tesla ( at present the only100%high performance electrical car).

Renewable : 

  • Capable of being replaced by natural ecological cycles or sound and responsible management practices
  • A natural resource that can be used more than once because is naturally replenished
  • A resource that can be replenished in the near future 

An example of renewable energy is hydroelectric energy.

If you check the first page of your electrical invoice, there you will be able to see the percentage composition of all sources from which that electrical energy has been produced.

Sustainable :

  • Meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own need
  • The resource can be used not only for years but for generations
  • A sustainable process must not involve the use of fossil fuels, deplete supplies of fresh water or soil, and must leave an ecosystem in approximately the same state as before the process started.

  • It isn’t possible using any renewable source at a pace faster than the time necessary to their reproduction
  • It’s very important, in any area of the world, avoiding mono-cultural growing excess, despite the biodiversity preservation ( f. ex. biodiesel production, that may cause problems to biological and social equilibria of different countries )
