Our mission is to replace all traditional toxic and fossil-based solvents completely. We believe in Flexibility: it means that we are able to adapt and modify our products according to specific needs of our customers.
Our solvents are derived from renewable resources rich in complex carbohydrates, such as corn, wheat and beets, but also from wastes of the paper and the wood industry.
Esters and other derivatives of natural acids, as well as bio-based alcohols, glycols or ammides are used to produce our bio-based solvent blends.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) released at the end of life by ASTROBIO™ green solvents compensates the CO2 absorbed by the biomass used for their production.

Our biosolvents are proprietary bio-based blends designed to mimic the main physicochemical properties of the fossil-based commodities they are able to replace. In some grades we use a variable portion of fossil co-solvents to assure the desired applicative performances.
Strong solvency power for several resins, polymers grades and soils. ASTROBIO™ green solvents also have an high loading capacity (i.e. you can use less solvent to get the same results) and they are easy and inexpensive to distill or recycle.
ASTROBIO™ have been found to be more efficient (20% to 30%) in reducing viscosity than related fossil-based solvents. They can also guarantee reduced evaporation losses in cleaning applications (i.e. they stay on the job longer).
With the use of ASTROBIO™ green solvents you may found other technical advantages like more compatibility with other ingredients in formulations and more extended stability versus aging and temperature of your final products.

Generally speaking all ASTROBIO™ green solvents have a lighter labelling than related petro-chemical solvents. Our replacements for NMP and DMF, for example, are labelled just as irritant. We can provide also non-flammable replacements of flammable solvents.
Plus, some of our products have higher or don’t have at all occupational limit exposure, with all the adavantages in the mitigation of chemical risk for workers in industrial environments.
All ASTROBIO™ green solvents components are classified as readily or inherently biodegradable according to one or more OECD guidelines. Complete mineralization occours in less than 67 days.
Bio-based raw materials are widely recognized by the international scientific community as fundamental in the fight against climate change.
All ASTROBIO™ green solvents do not contain ozone depleting chemicals, environmentally hazardous ingredients, hazardous air pollutants. Our products are also completely paraffins, ketons, aromatic and halogens free.
Carbon of biosolvents comes from photosynthesis, where carbon dioxide (CO2) is removed from the atmosphere by plants to make comlex carbohydrates like cellulose and starches, but also oils and proteins.
Natural oils and complex carbohydrates are extracted from biomasses and then converted in natural acids, alcohols and other molecules mainly by biotechnological fermentation processes. Sometimes these intermediates can be further chemically transformed to obtain our raw materials.
We blend our raw materials in different amounts and in the right conditions to give rise to a complete series of novel grades of bio-based solvents that are used in many industrial applications or as ingredients in other formulations. At the end of life, carbon dioxide and water is releaed in to the environment.
For EVERY gram of carbon dioxide (CO2) released in the atmosphere by using a biosolvent, there was ONE gram of C02 removed from the atmosphere by photosynthesis.
This overall balance is called CARBON NEUTRAL.
